Do you have a feeling that your septic tank needs a repair? It can often be difficult to know if there is anything wrong with your septic tank and the damage won’t usually be visible to you, as they’re buried away underground. Regular maintenance is important to ensure that your septic tank is in good condition and if there is a problem with it, it can be resolved quickly before it turns into a more severe problem in the future. Our plumbers at Flow Free Drainage will happily repair and maintain your septic tank for you.
There are some key danger hints of a septic tank issue that you should check for:
– Bad odour coming from the septic tank.
– Sewage and water from the drains coming back up into your property.
– Toilet overflowing and not flushing properly.
– Gurgling sounds coming from the drains.
– Slow drainage.
– Standing water nearby the drain field.
– Green grass that’s growing around your septic tank.
You must keep your septic tank maintained by having it pumped and emptied regularly, this will mean that you will be much less likely to encounter septic tank problems further down the line.
Other common septic tank issues are:
Ground movement: even the smallest amount of ground movement near your septic tank can create an extensive amount of strain on the septic tank, which causes there to be cracks and fractures on its walls. This will potentially lead to your septic tank needing to be emptied more often because it will back up more. As well as this, groundwater can enter the septic tank through cracks in the walls which means that the septic tank will be unable to separate it from the waste properly.
Collapsed baffle: this certainly isn’t something you want in your property! A baffle is a barrier inside your septic tank that prevents the solid waste from entering the soakaway system (that deals only with liquid waste). This can cause the soakaway system to block up, causing waste to start backing up into your property.
Damage from tree roots: roots from trees can grow straight through the walls of your septic tank if it’s located too closely. This will cause water from the ground to get into the septic tank and waste from the septic tank can escape to the surface, this will stop the tank from working correctly as well as creating a nasty mess on the outside area around the septic tank.
